4 02 2011

Welcome to 2011! (belated as it may be)

We’re only a month deep into the year and it’s already been a busy time for NGA.

Our Ultimate team is currently 2 for 2 in the current season and things are only looking to get better and better. It seems we’ve improved somewhat since we first started at the start of last year. We’re still looking to add more people to the ranks so if you’d like to check Ultimate Frisbee out, drop me a line and we can throw the disc around a bit.

We’ve already had our first LAN for the year and it was a really good time; Adsman made the whole event, which made it the whole thing that much better. Thanks again to SCUZNUTS for the use of his place for this. We’ll be posting more information on the next NGA:LAN event soon. We’ve also created a Steam community group and will be scheduling some WAN events in the near future. Stay tuned to see how you can get involved with those.

Supernatural Sunday has been going strong over the summer period, even if there’s been no Supernatural to watch, instead we’ve been charging ahead with double episodes of Stargate Universe. We’ll be back to our usual program this weekend as Supernatural returns from its hiatus tomorrow. It looks like there won’t be another season of Supernatural so if there’s something you think could take its place let me know and we’ll check it out.

If you’re interested in anything I’ve mentioned or would like to know about the other lil’ somethin somethin’s NGA has going on leave a comment and we’ll get the ball rolling, or you can visit us here.

If you’d like to join our Steam Community please visit here

Looking forward to a year full of good times,

Joel and the NGA Team.

Last Minute Screening: Splice

It’s time for another Last Minute Screening. We’ll be showing Splice, the Sci-Fi thriller starring Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley.

Genetic engineers Clive Nicoli (Adrien Brody) and Elsa Kast (Sarah Polley) achieve fame by successfully splicing together the DNA of different animals to create incredible new hybrid animals. Now they want to use human DNA in a hybrid that could revolutionize science and medicine. But the pharmaceutical company that funds their research, N.E.R.D. (Nucleic Exchange Research & Development), forbids it, instead mandating that their department be reorganized to focus on finding & extracting certain proteins from the creatures they have already created. Not wishing to spend all their time engaged in what they consider mundane research for the next 5-10 years, Clive and Elsa secretly conduct their own experiments, blending human DNA with that of other animals.

Ultimate: Season 2 game 2

23 11 2010

Hi everybody.

Let’s just put it out there, last season we finished 3rd to last in the season rankings. That’s a fair assignment considering we had just one person who’d played the game before it started. It should be no surprise then to hear in our first game last week (where we played a ranking match against the 3rd strongest team from last season) we were soundly beaten 14-1. Now that’s over, hopefully we’ll be up against some teams more suited to our level.

Here are to details for this week’s B-grade draw:

Macalister 1 – Ruskus Mungus v. Business Time

Macalister 2 – Zesty Creature v. Wolves

Mt Albert – Sex Panther v. NGA

Martin Luckie 1 – Mild Cats v. Mt Vic Massive

Martin Luckie 2 – Crew v. Rabbid Rabbits

Martin Luckie 3 – Savage Cats v. Can’t Touch Disc

If you’re in the team could you please arrive around 6pm. If you’d like to come down and support NGA the game is at Mt Albert (above Martin Lucky Park) and starts at 6:30.

If you’re in the team and haven’t paid your fees please contact Tim and let him know when it’ll happen. He needs the money back so he can use it to keep his girlfriend happy..

19 09 2010

Well it wouldn’t be an NGA mailout if it didn’t have its fair share of typos and spelling mistakes would it. I promise one day I’ll send out the perfect email, until then you don’t need to remind me 😛

With the issue of my credibility behind us lets talk LAN, number 7 to be exact. The be honest I thought it wouldn’t happen again this year, other areas of my life have taken priority and the likelihood of another LAN seemed slim. However, there are a couple guys who really want to support NGA:LAN events and have basically done all the work this time round. Patrick and @TimSilvester deserve a lot of my thanks!

So the deal this time round will be much like the last. We’re having it at the same place as last time with the same great people and hopefully a few more (we’re gonna need bigger places before long!). Patrick will have some good flicks to show we’ll sure as anything get some sic competition going.

Here’s the info you need:

October 9th – 12pm-12pm (10th)
113 Farnham Street

Bring your computer and all the kit you need to run it and you’ll probably need some cash for pizza.

Look forward to seeing you on the 9th for some serious fun.

NGA presents Repo Men

You may not have heard about NGA’s last minute screening’s but that’s okay, we’ve been keeping a tight lid on it until now (I only found out about it last weekend).

The general idea is to sporadically show movies that people may have missed at the theatres but would still love to see with their friends.

They’ll happen on short notice and if you can make it that’s great, if not, well maybe we’ll see you at the next one.

The next Last Minute Screening will show tonight (the 13th) at 8:30 and we’ll be watching Repo Men, directed by Miguel Sapochnik starring Jude Law, Forest Whitaker and Alice Braga.

Set in the near future when artificial organs can be bought on credit, it revolves around a man who struggles to make the payments on a heart he has purchased. He must therefore go on the run before said ticker is repossessed.

If you’re one of our regular event attendees you’ll know where to go, if not please visit our venue information page for details.

Hope to see you and your friends tonight.

NGA:LAN 5.0 – a couple extra bits of goodness

18 06 2010

Howdy fellow geek gamers.

Just over a week now before NGA:LAN 5.0 kicks off. Here’s the poster with all the deats you’ll need:

On top of all the usual goodness we have at our LANs, Patrick has kindly organised a LANable version of Modern Warfare 2 for our gaming enjoyment. I’m sure it’s ‘completely’ legitimate and shouldn’t be missed. We also have an opportunity to run another mini-MMO session in the latter part of the event (esp. good for those who want to stay late).

The MMO flavour will remain Champions Online and the plan will be to tackle the new content added earlier this week called the Serpent Lantern; more on this after the jump. If you want to be a part of this you’ll need a CO account, no problems if you don’t already have one – I can hook you up with one that’s playable free for 10 days. You’ll also need to be level 11, which is about 2.5 hours’ worth of gameplay (or 3 hours if you haven’t played the game before). So if you want in let me know and I’ll get you started. Ideally it would be best to make 11 before the LAN but no dramas doing it on the day. The spaces are limited so let me know quick if you want to join in, the max team size is 5. Here’s more details on what we’ll be doing:

VIPER just may rule the world one day – if the Council of Thirty and the Supreme Serpent ever stop fighting for control and work together. Both would reshape the world in their image. Both would create soul-killing totalitarian regimes. Luckily for the rest of the world, VIPER is still torn by internal conflict.

However, there is one magical artifact out of legend that could force unity on the warring factions: the Serpent Lantern.

The quest for the Serpent Lantern will take you from the skyscrapers of Millennium City to a hidden jungle VIPER base. It’s up to you to stop the Supreme Serpent from finding the lost Serpent Lantern and uniting VIPER for one deadly purpose.

The Serpent Lantern is Champions Online first Adventure Pack, a selection of themed content designed to plug seamlessly into your Champions Online play. Adventure Packs will feature new story lines, new locations and new rewards for you and your friends to enjoy. Think of them as a new story arc for your favorite comic book, only you’re the hero in your own adventure.

Fun for all ages: The Serpent Lantern can played by any level from 11-40 and any team size from 1-5, with challenges scaling to match. Team up with your friends and take on greater challenges!

New VIPER adversaries: Meet and battle new VIPER agents, including Draconis, Viperia and the mysterious Serpent Mages.

Dens of snakes: Explore VIPER’s network of Project Scavenger bases, the Serpent Caves and the ancient Temple of Nama.

Snakecharming never paid so good: Earn UNTIL Merits from Project Snakecharmer to buy special costume pieces, action figures, devices and more.
